Kobold’s Waste to Energy solutions prove reliable

KOBOLD Instrumentation, represented in South Africa by Instrotech – a Comtest Group company – develops, manufactures and sells instruments for monitoring, measuring and regulating the physical quantities of flow through, pressure, level and temperature.
CASE STUDY
An international oleo-chemical company, whose business covers almost everything from palm plantations to the downstream production of cooking oils and soaps, manages its own plantations and palm oil mills. Like many other plantation, mill and other organic-waste generators, the company took the decision to transform and fully utilise the energy contained in their waste by-products. The plant now generates biogas out of palm waste. Tons of liquid waste is generated daily and, by design, approximately 1.9 MW of electricity is generated. As with previous CDM related projects, Kobold was involved in the most important issue, fluid measurement. The project included flow measurement of liquid waste, flow measurement of generated biogas beside its pressure and temperature measurement. KOBOLD installed Magnetic Inductive Flow Meters model DMH, Oscillation Flow Meters model DOG, Pressure Transmitter model PAS and Temperature Transmitter model TWL.
Kobold’s vast experience in the field of biogas flow/pressure/temperature measurement won them the project against stiff and diverse competition. This was due largely to their unique operating principles, and a myriad commercial application references. The comparison between Oscillation Flow and Thermal Mass Flow measuring principle, in particular put Kobold at a distinct advantage.
