Instrotech, is promoting Monitran General Purpose Monitoring Sensors, for use with PLC’s and other industrial controllers. Monitran 1185C provides the users with a continuous output of vibration usually as a 4-20mA signal. Changes in the monitor signal will allow the user to spot vibration changes in the part of the machine to which the sensor is attached. Rapid changes accompany such conditions as machinery working loose from its mountings, fan blade malfunction, bearing failure all of which require immediate attention and machine shutdown to avoid widespread damage and loss of machine time. If the signal is logged at regular intervals, gradually increasing vibration indicates wear in the part of the machine where the sensor is fitted calling for replacement or detailed study with a portable vibration analyser.

Accelerometers and velocity meters are used to measure a wide range of frequencies, including low frequency vibrations found in building maintenance. They occur at less than 2Hz, and can also be useful in monitoring bearing wear in cooling tower fans and gearboxes for example.

Monitran has launched six new ranges of general-purpose industrial sensors for vibration analysis. High accuracy, quick recovery from shock loading, and high immunity from electrical noise make these new sensors suitable for a variety of applications within sectors. The units are supplied as top- or side-entry and with integral cables and connectors. Submersible and intrinsically safe versions are also available.
