The new KOBOLD flowmeter Type MIK is used for measuring and monitoring the smaller and medium-sized flows of conductivity liquids in pipes. The device operates according to the electromagnetic measurement principle. According to Faraday’s Law of magnetic induction, a voltage is induced in a conductor moving through a magnetic field. The electrically conductive measuring agent acts as the moved conductor.
The voltage induced in the measuring agent is proportional to the flow velocity and is, therefore, a value for the volumetric flow. The flowing media must have a minimum conductivity. The induced voltage is picked up by two sensing electrodes that are in contact with the measuring agent and sent to the measuring amplifier. The flow rate will be calculated based on the cross-sectional area of the pipe.
The measurement is not depending on the process liquid and its material properties such as density, viscosity and temperature. The device may be equipped with a switch, frequency or analogue output. Moreover, there is a compact electronic system to be selected from, which contains a switch and an analogue output. The device series is completed by optionally obtainable dosing and counter electronic system.
The counter electronics system shows the current flow rate on the first line of the display and shows the partial or overall volume on the second line. A dosing electronic system controls simple filling duties and also measures the flow rate, overall volume and filling volume. The analogue output and two relay outputs can be utilised for the further processing of signals.

When it comes to observing environmental conditions over a longer period of time, in many cases it is quite sufficient to transmit the collected data via WiFi once or twice a day. When configuring the MSR145W2D,

 

you can set the time windows during which the data logger should connect to the WiFi network. The WiFi connection is thus only activated

 

when it is needed – which has a positive effect on the battery life of the data logger.

Save and manage data in the MSR LocalCloud or in the MSR SmartCloud

With the MSR145W2D you have the option of using the MSR LocalCloud to store, manage and export the data either locally on your (company’s) own server or in the web-based cloud solution MSR SmartCloud. Via web browser you can view the measured values during operation.

In order to gain knowledge about the movement activity of dairy goats, MSR145W2D data loggers with acceleration sensors are used in a scientific research project. The loggers record the animals’ activities for 24 hours. The data transmission via WiFi takes place energy-savingly only once a day – when the goats are in the barn. This energy-saving data transmission allows the battery to run for more than 5 months. Should the WiFi connection fail, the data remain securely stored in the logger and can also be read out via USB.

Short-term measurements with the MSR145W2D

For test measurements, it is often necessary to monitor measurement data in real time. In this case, the MSR145W2D is configured by the user so that the data is permanently sent to the WiFi network. Although the uninterrupted transmission of data results in higher power consumption, which affects the mobile operating time of the data logger, the data can be viewed immediately using MSR LocalViewer. For further processing, the measurement data can be sent to the cloud if required.

Application example: Short-term measurement

To determine load values, wireless MSR145W2D data loggers run along the production line at a beverage manufacturer. The measurement data is transmitted in real time via WiFi. Critical values are detected immediately. The recorded data not only help to gain insights into possible causes of increased wear in the production line, the implemented measures can subsequently be checked for their effectiveness with the data loggers.

In addition, due to Planck’s radiation law, exponentially more infrared radiation is emitted in the short wavelength range, so linear emissivity issues have less influence on the repeatability of temperature measurement results at short-wavelength. Therefore, contactless temperature measurement of shiny materials at high temperatures should always be as short-wave as possible, considering the higher temperature measuring range.
