The Optris Xi 640 LT USB is a high-resolution, fixed-mount infrared thermal camera designed for precise, continuous and non-contact temperature measurement in demanding industrial and research environments. Combining the functionality of a thermal imager and a pyrometer in a compact, rugged design, it supports detailed thermal analysis for process monitoring, quality control and automation applications.
Operating in the long-wave infrared spectrum (8–14 µm), the Xi 640 LT USB measures surface temperatures from –20°C to 900°C. Its VGA detector resolution of 640 × 480 pixels delivers highly detailed thermal images, enabling accurate analysis of spatial temperature distribution. A 32 Hz frame rate supports real-time imaging, allowing users to detect rapid temperature changes and subtle thermal variations in dynamic processes.
The camera utilises an uncooled microbolometer detector, providing a robust, low-maintenance and cost-effective alternative to cooled infrared systems and traditional line scanners. A range of optics, from wide-angle to telephoto, allows adaptation to different installation distances and target sizes. Optics are factory aligned, while the motorised focus can be adjusted remotely via software, ensuring precise surface temperature measurement even in hard-to-reach installations.
Designed for seamless industrial integration, the Xi 640 LT USB operates via a USB interface and includes a configurable process interface with analogue and digital inputs and outputs. These interfaces enable transmission of measurement data, alarm triggering, synchronisation with external equipment and control of camera functions such as emissivity adjustment and triggered recordings. Software development kits (SDKs) are available for developers creating custom monitoring and control applications.
When used with the free PIX Connect software, the Xi 640 LT USB offers advanced thermal imaging and analysis features, including line scanning, image merging, automated hot spot detection and optical distortion correction. The software also enables precise configuration of emissivity, measurement areas and focus, ensuring reliable and application-specific temperature monitoring. A 4 × 4 pixel minimum field-of-view criterion supports consistent and accurate temperature readings.
Engineered for harsh industrial environments, the Xi 640 LT USB features a stainless steel housing with IP67 protection, providing resistance to dust and water. Its compact dimensions (36 × 100 mm) and lightweight design (approximately 220 g) allow installation in confined spaces. A standard M30 mounting thread, adjustable mounting bracket and cable options up to 20 m provide installation flexibility across a wide range of setups.
A comprehensive selection of accessories further extends the camera’s usability in challenging conditions. Water-cooled housings enable operation at ambient temperatures of up to 250°C, while air purge systems protect the optics from dust, smoke and fumes. Additional accessories include optical shutters, outdoor housings, mounting brackets and extended connection cables.
