Optris PI 450i LT, Accurate Fast Infrared Camera with High Operating Temperature

Product Information

he Optris PI 450i is a high-performance infrared thermal camera developed for research, process engineering, and industrial automation where measurement stability, robustness, and accuracy are critical. Designed for continuous radiometric temperature monitoring, the PI 450i combines precise thermal imaging with exceptional resistance to heat-induced drift, making it ideal for demanding production and research environments.

At its core, the PI 450i uses an uncooled microbolometer detector with a resolution of 382 × 288 pixels, delivering detailed radiometric thermal images across a temperature range of –20 °C to 900 °C, extendable up to 1500 °C for high-temperature applications. Operating in the long-wave infrared (8–14 µm) spectrum, the camera is suitable for a wide variety of materials and surfaces encountered in industrial and scientific applications.

A key advantage of the PI 450i is its low power, low processing architecture. By outputting raw radiometric datawith minimal onboard processing, the camera significantly reduces internal heat generation. This design enables reliable operation at ambient temperatures up to 80 °C, minimizes measurement drift, and avoids the overheating issues common in compact, high-power thermal cameras. As a result, the PI 450i maintains stable accuracy, low noise, and long-term reliability even in harsh environments.

With a fast 80 Hz frame rate, the PI 450i captures rapid temperature changes with reduced motion blur, ensuring clear imaging of moving objects and dynamic processes. The optimized 17 µm pixel pitch for long-wave infrared allows accurate temperature measurement on small targets, with a measurement field of view as small as 3 × 3 pixels. This enables precise spot measurements without requiring excessive proximity to the target.

Interchangeable lenses, ranging from telephoto to wide-angle, allow users to tailor the field of view and working distance to their specific application, maximizing effective pixels on target. High-quality optics from the Optris Precision Line reduce distortion and ensure consistent, repeatable measurements across the entire image.

For automation and system integration, the PI 450i supports optional Industrial Process Interface hardware, enabling the output of up to three temperature signals or alarms to PLCs and control systems. External triggering, synchronization, and alarm handling support closed-loop process control and deterministic operation in automated environments.

The included PIX Connect software provides powerful real-time visualization and analysis tools, including hot and cold spot detection, histograms, temperature profiles, trend plots, and region-based statistics. A dedicated line-scan mode converts the two-dimensional thermal image into a continuous temperature profile along a defined line, making the PI 450i an ideal solid-state replacement for bulky mechanical infrared line scanners. This feature is especially valuable for sheet-based and moving-material applications such as plastics thermoforming, conveyor belts, wallboard production, and web processes.

Thermal images and radiometric video can be recorded for later analysis, traceability, and quality documentation. Engineers can replay thermal sequences frame by frame, extract calibrated temperature data from any pixel, export results, and configure automated alarms or recordings based on temperature thresholds.

Designed for harsh industrial use, the PI 450i features a compact, rugged construction and is the smallest camera in its performance class. Optional water-cooled enclosures allow operation at ambient temperatures up to 315 °C, while air-purge accessories maintain optical clarity in dusty or vapor-filled environments. Outdoor housings with integrated heating support reliable external installations. Optional calibration certificates provide traceability for regulated industries and research applications.

Manufactured in Germany to stringent quality standards, the Optris PI 450i stands for precision, durability, and long-term reliability. It is a trusted solution for predictive maintenance, quality assurance, advanced manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and scientific research, delivering dependable thermal data where accuracy and stability matter most.
