Sku: OPT-PI400i

High-resolution Optris PI 400i infrared thermal camera for continuous industrial temperature monitoring up to 1500 °C with fast 80 Hz imaging.

Product Information

The Optris PI 400i is a high-resolution infrared thermal camera designed for continuous radiometric temperature monitoring in demanding industrial environments. Built for accuracy, speed, and seamless system integration, the PI 400i enables process engineers, maintenance teams, and researchers to visualize temperature distributions, detect early thermal deviations, and implement closed-loop control with confidence.

Operating in the long-wave infrared spectrum (8–14 µm), the PI 400i provides broad material compatibility across metals, plastics, coatings, electronics, and composites. The uncooled microbolometer detector delivers a resolution of 382 × 288 pixels with a fast 80 Hz frame rate, ensuring smooth imaging of moving objects and rapid thermal transients without motion blur. A 17 µm pixel pitch supports precise spatial measurement at typical industrial working distances.

Temperature measurement ranges from –20 °C up to 900 °C as standard, with an extended high-temperature calibration option reaching 1500 °C, allowing one platform to cover commissioning at ambient conditions as well as monitoring of high-temperature manufacturing processes. System accuracy is specified at ±2 °C or ±2 %, whichever is greater, while thermal sensitivity reaches 75 mK with wide-angle optics, enabling detection of subtle gradients and early-stage anomalies.

Interchangeable optics allow the field of view to be matched precisely to the application. Lens options range from 18 × 14° for detailed close-up measurements to 80 × 54° for wide-area monitoring, making the PI 400i suitable for both small targets and large process zones. Manual focus adjustment ensures measurement accuracy, while PIX Connect software assists with pixel-size calculations, distortion correction for wide-angle lenses, and setup planning.

Integration into industrial systems is straightforward. The camera connects via USB 2.0 and includes license-free PIX Connect software along with a comprehensive software development kit (SDK). For networked installations or long cable runs, optional Gigabit Ethernet with Power over Ethernet (PoE) is available, and the PI NetBox converts the camera into a stand-alone Ethernet node. The standard Process Interface provides analog and digital I/O for alarm triggering, emissivity control, snapshots, recording, and synchronization. The optional Industrial Process Interfaceadds galvanic isolation, multiple analog inputs and outputs (including 4–20 mA), relay outputs, and a dedicated fail-safe relay for reliable PLC integration.

PIX Connect software enables real-time visualization, histograms, min/max tracking, line profiles, and time-based temperature analysis. Users can configure alarm thresholds with hysteresis, region-of-interest monitoring, emissivity tables, and automated triggers. Radiometric video and images can be recorded for traceability, audits, and root-cause analysis, while data export to CSV supports external processing. Developers can integrate the camera directly using Windows or Linux SDKs.

The PI 400i features a compact, rugged anodized aluminum housing with an IP67 rating, protecting against dust and water in harsh industrial environments. It is qualified for vibration and shock according to IEC 60068 standards and operates at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C, extendable to 315 °C with the optional CoolingJacket Advanced. Additional accessories, including outdoor housings, air-purge attachments, high-temperature USB cables, and stainless-steel mounting options, support installation in high-heat and mechanically demanding locations.

Typical applications include electronics assembly, plastics extrusion and calendering, materials and component testing, electrical cabinets and cable harnesses, and general process engineering. Hot-spot detection, envelope alarms, and line-scan operation for moving products enable early intervention, improved quality control, and reduced unplanned downtime.

The Optris PI 400i is supplied as a complete industrial imaging solution, combining high spatial resolution, fast acquisition, interchangeable optics, robust process interfaces, and advanced software tools in a compact platform optimized for continuous thermal monitoring.
