Selet | Industrial Sensors and Automation Solutions
Founded in 1973 in Turin, Italy, Selet emerged during a period of significant industrial growth. The company initially focused on the production of electronic boards for oleodynamic and electrical applications. Within a year, Selet identified its true direction and shifted its focus to the development and manufacture of components for industrial automation.
This strategic move led to the introduction of inductive sensors, designed to replace traditional mechanical limit switches and improve reliability and performance within automated systems.
Innovation in Sensor Technology
Throughout the 1980s, Selet continued to invest heavily in research and development, expanding its product portfolio to include capacitive and photoelectric sensors. During this period, Selet became the first Italian company to invest in gate-array technology for sensor development, working closely with leading global electronic component manufacturers to enhance product performance and reliability.
The company also introduced industrial instruments and rotary encoders, offering both incremental and absolutesolutions for a wide range of automation applications.
Quality, Compliance and Expansion
In 1995, in response to European CE regulatory requirements, Selet established an in-house EMC testing laboratory, enabling full compliance testing and quality assurance across its product range. During the same period, the company developed numerous private-label and co-branded solutions for international partners and became the first Italian manufacturer to design its own line of compact, programmable PLCs.
At the turn of the millennium, Selet made a strategic decision to discontinue its PLC range in order to concentrate on advanced research and emerging technologies, including magnetic sensing, railway applications, and smart city solutions.
Modern Manufacturing and Global Presence
In 2002, Selet commissioned its own manufacturing facility and undertook a complete factory reorganisation to support continued growth and innovation. These efforts culminated in the achievement of ISO 9001 certification in 2011, confirming the company’s commitment to quality management and continuous improvement.
Selet actively participates in international trade exhibitions and expanded its global presence with its first Asian exhibition in Guangzhou in 2012, following the success of major European automation events such as SPS Italia and SPS Nuremberg.
Customer-Focused Engineering
In 2014, Selet refreshed its corporate identity to better reflect its customer-centric philosophy. Products are designed and manufactured with the same care and precision as if they were built for internal use, ensuring solutions are closely aligned with customer requirements.
Today, Selet operates globally, supporting customers through a well-established international distribution network as well as direct engagement, delivering reliable and innovative sensor solutions for industrial automation worldwide.
