Non-Invasive Tank Level Gauge

Rototherm, represented locally by Instrotech, has launched VesselCheck, a non-invasive liquid level measurement using proven Rototherm Canongate Technology - leading suppliers of process measurement technology for level, liquid concentration and density and carbon dioxide. VesselCheck has found world-wide application in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, beverage, refrigeration and transport industries for applications as diverse as refrigerant receivers (up to 2000mm); LPG tanks; fuel tanks; distilled spirit vats; beer tanks; pure water tanks; liquid chlorine tanks and acids/solvents tanks.

The technology, developed through experience, is well suited for level, liquid concentration and density across numerous applications. The non-tank break-in ensures that there is no downtime during the installation process.  The unit requires only minimal maintenance, thus reducing the overall cost of ownership. This low cost, highly reliable solution is suitable for most shapes of tanks and tank material types and has been used to successfully monitor vessels in facilities in 32 countries, world-wide.

VesselCheck comprises a signal processing unit and ultrasonic transceivers. Ultrasonic sensors are clamped or bonded to the outside walls of the vessel; one on the bottom of the vessel for level measurement and one on the side of the vessel for density compensation. Signals from the transducers are fed into the processor and either displayed locally, if that option is selected, or output to a separate system. The system calculates the height and volume of the liquid in the tank, from the time taken for the signal to be received from the liquid surface.  A temperature integrate ultrasonic sensor is available offering compensation for the effects of varying temperatures. Level measurement distances vary from 3 – 25 meters dependent on the system and application.

VesselCheck has no moving parts and is unaffected by pressure.  It fits tanks of most shapes and sizes above ground with sensors bonded to outside of tank base and side wall.  There is an optional local display and/or output to higher level system for up to two tanks.  ATEX approved versions for hazardous areas are also available.
